Affordable Housing - Sustainable Communities
Petersham Town Hall, Sydney 13-14 February 2008

A two day symposium held in February 2008 with the theme “Living Co-operatively” explored the complementary ideas of “living co-operatively” and “housing”, both fundamental concepts in a well balanced civil society. The theme captures the idea of communities living in a co-operative and democratic manner, and focuses on the co-operative organisational model, which in many other parts of the world is an integral part of community life.

The symposium was organised by a consortium of organisations that care about the idea of communities living in a co-operative and democratic manner, and in the co-operative organisational model. The members were Cosmopolitan Civil Societies Research Centre, University of Technology, Sydney; Marrickville Council; Parramatta City Council; The Association to Resource Co-operative Housing; The Co-operative Federation of NSW; and The Mercury Centre Co-operative

The event was sponsored by Cosmopolitan Civil Societies Research Centre, University of Technology, Sydney; Marrickville Council; Parramatta City Council and mecu Limited.

Extracts of the symposium website have been provide here as a record of the event. Here you will find a list of speakers with links to their biographies, abstracts, papers and presentations if available, as well as a summary of the break out workshop conducted on day 2 of the Symposium and a media report of the event.
